Episode 37: Democracy is for the Living with George Cheung

As election season continues to heat up during the hottest summer ever recorded in the United States, George Cheung, Director of More Equitable Democracy, joins us to explore how the current electoral system works and how to build a truly representative democracy that advances climate justice. We deep-dive into the US electoral system and how it compares to other countries, the limitations of a winner-take-all system in representing Americans’ policy priorities, and efforts to build more proportional representation. George Cheung, is the Director of More Equitable Democracy. He is the Executive Director of More Equitable Democracy, a national racial justice organization that supports communities of color to transform our electoral system. After completing a Masters in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, George founded and led Equal Rights Washington, a statewide LGBTQ advocacy organization, directed the Win/Win Network, an affiliate of State Voices which supported nonpartisan civic engagement work in Washington, and served as Program Director for the Joyce Foundation Democracy Program.
